Belize

As you approach Belize by air the first thing you notice is the surf breaking over the spectacular barrier reef that runs parallel with the coast from north to south for roughly 250 kms. As you cross the reef approaching Belize City you see dozens of small cayes (islands), around 200 in total off Belize, most with white sandy beaches, fishing flats, and some with a few small hotels.

The water inside the reef is clear, shallow and warm, andideal for diving and salt-water fly-fishing. Beyond the bubbling surf and the reef the seabed drops off hundreds of meters into clear blue water, ideal for deep-sea fishing. You may also see the three atolls, which are outside the reef, and all offer stunning diving and fishing opportunities. Fishing in Belize is amongst the best in the region. Inside the reef and on the atolls there are flats offering wonderful fly-fishing for Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook, excellent Baracuda and especially good is the Permit fishing. Outside the barrier reef is some exceptional deep sea and bait fishing, and three atolls offering yet more spectacular salt-water fly fishing opportunities.

Belize offers a wonderful variety of scenery to suit most people, and allowing you to have a simple beach holiday or add many different types of activities from salt-water fly-fishing, deep sea fishing, scuba diving, white water rafting, jungle treks and visiting 2000 year old Mayan ruins. The choice of how much you do or don-t do is entirely up to you. The style and quality of the hotels and lodges in Belize varies enormously and can be chosen to suit most peoples budget and requirements. All of our trips will be tailored specifically for you, and backed up by our local partner, Richard French, a Canadian with years of experience working in Belize.

Belize City - Don't go, it's a dump and not particularly safe. It is simply the entry and exit point, and with the excellent regular air-taxi connections of Maya Aviation and Tropic Air to most of the places of interest in Belize there is no need to waste time there.

Air Taxi Services - Both Maya Island Air and Tropic Air are efficient air taxi services offering a very regular flight service between most of the key places in Belize. They both use 14 seat Cessna Caravans which allow them cover most of the country quickly and cheaply. This is the way we recommend seeing as much of Belize as you choose. Most of the flights are under 20 minutes.
